Trade 3 is official. I traded my Wurlitzer Piano for a set of Gorham Sterling Silver Flatware.

You’ll remember I acquired the piano through an experiment I wanted to test, focusing on giving someone the “mental freedom” of decluttering their home. 🎹
The person with the piano enjoyed downsizing to a computer fan and having a large piano removed from their space.
After reaching out to some piano stores and dealers, I realized my original ceiling of “$200 ish” was a bit too high.
There was some value here but not that much. Couple that with the process of needing to move it and any value would be lost.
So I put the value of the piano closer to the $100 level I had originally thought. 🤔
I decided to double down on my theory that people like a good story in addition to a good trade. I also theorized it would move FAST if I offered to deliver it. 🚚
I listed the piano as “free”… And then explained the stipulations of the trade to anyone who inquired.
Almost immediately I had offers and one of the first ones was a woman who said she was in need of a piano but thought the expense and hassle of moving it meant she’d never get one.
So imagine her shock and excitement when she saw my post! 🤯
I coaxed some friends into helping me and delivered it to her a couple days later. She loved my story and was excited to be a part of the project.
We agreed on a trade of a set of Gorham Sterling Silver Flatware she wasn’t using.🍴
I know a little bit about silver so I knew there was some value based on the current price of the precious metal content in each piece. 🪙
I made the trade and then started my research to gauge the value.
About a dozen conversations later with online antique dealers, silver brokers, and a friend in the jewelry industry, and I’ve already received a number of cash offers.
The offers range from $500-$600! 💵
And with my third trade complete I’ve acquired a set of Gorham Sterling Silver Flatware, increasing my trade value by about 5x! 😀
